AI Magic Text: Rewrite, Expand, Translate Inside the WordPress Editor

AI Magic Text puts AI editing power inside your WordPress editor. Select any text — a sentence, a paragraph, a whole section — right-click (or use the toolbar), and instantly rewrite, expand, shorten, translate, or improve it. No switching tabs, no copy-pasting.

Before You Start

You’ll need:

  • AIWU plugin with an API key configured (First Article guide covers setup)
  • You’re working in the WordPress Gutenberg editor (classic editor is partially supported)
  • Time needed: 2 minutes to activate, instant use after
  • Plan required: Free

How to Use AI Magic Text

Open any post or page in the WordPress editor. Select the text you want to edit — anything from a single sentence to several paragraphs.

Once text is selected, you’ll see the AI Magic Text toolbar appear (a small AI icon or “AI” button in the formatting bar). Click it to see the available actions.

💡 Tip: If you don’t see the AI toolbar, make sure AIWU is activated and your API key is set. Also try clicking directly inside a paragraph block first, then selecting text.

What Each Action Does

Rewrite

Rewrites the selected text in fresh phrasing while keeping the same meaning. Use this to remove AI-sounding language from generated content, vary repetitive phrasing, or just get a different version to compare.

Example: “Leverage our synergistic approach to optimize outcomes” → “Our approach works better because the parts support each other.”

Expand

Takes a short sentence or bullet point and turns it into a full paragraph with supporting detail. Great for fleshing out outlines or adding depth to thin content.

Example: “Our support team responds in under 2 hours.” → A full paragraph explaining what that means in practice, with examples of what fast support looks like for the customer.

Shorten / Summarize

Compresses the selected text to its essential point. Use this to tighten wordy paragraphs or create a summary sentence from a long block.

Example: Three paragraphs explaining a concept → one clear sentence that captures the key point.

Translate

Translates the selected text into another language. Select the target language from the dropdown that appears. Works for all languages supported by your AI provider (typically 100+).

Example: Select your English intro paragraph → Translate → German → the German version replaces (or appears below) the original.

Improve

Fixes grammar, improves clarity, and smooths awkward phrasing — without changing the meaning or length significantly. Good final pass before publishing.

Custom Prompt

Type your own instruction. “Make this sound more formal.” “Add a statistic here.” “Turn this into a numbered list.” “Make this sound like it was written by an expert.” Any instruction works.

Practical Workflows

Polishing a bulk-generated article: Select each paragraph → Rewrite → compare before/after → accept the better version. Takes 10–15 minutes to humanize a full article.

Translating a post: Duplicate the post → select all content → Translate → pick target language. Review the translation, then publish. Faster than any manual translation.

Expanding an outline: Write 5–10 bullet points about a topic. Select each bullet → Expand → the outline becomes a full draft. Very efficient drafting method.

Filling in thin product descriptions: Select a one-sentence product description → Expand → the AI adds benefits, use cases, and audience details. Works perfectly with WooCommerce.

Verify It Works

  1. Open any WordPress post in the editor
  2. Select a paragraph of text
  3. Click the AI Magic Text icon in the toolbar
  4. Choose “Rewrite” — the AI rewrites the text in place within a few seconds
✅ Got a rewritten version? AI Magic Text is working. Every piece of content you write in WordPress now has an AI editing assistant built in.

Common Issues

Problem: “No AI toolbar appears when I select text.”
Fix: Make sure you’re in the Gutenberg block editor (not classic editor). Check that your API key is set in Settings → API. Try clicking inside the block first, then selecting text.

Problem: “The translation comes out in the wrong language.”
Fix: After clicking Translate, a language selection dropdown should appear. Make sure you select the correct target language before confirming. If no dropdown appears, try the Custom Prompt: “Translate this text to [language].”

Problem: “The Expand action made the text too long.”
Fix: Select the expanded text and use Shorten, or use Custom Prompt: “Expand this text slightly, adding 1–2 sentences of supporting detail only.”
